My art is a tangible expression celebrating the joy of life!
I am blessed, loved and embraced with Grace. Grace which brings true joy. Joy worth celebrating. My art is a tangible expression celebrating the joy of life.
Making joyful art that touches people, inspires them, reminds them of places and feelings, and hopefully invoking a sense of wonder and nostalgia in their hearts and minds, and even adding a smile to their faces, is what my paintings are all about.
My Christian faith informs my work. It’s just that simple. I’ve been blessed in so many ways that the joy I’ve been given just flows through into my work. That’s not to say that I just paint “happy-go-lucky” or “feel-good-smiley-faced” art. Not at all! That would be misunderstanding the true nature of joy.
Every object, every event, every place, pretty much everything in this world can be looked at in three different ways artistically; negatively, positively or neutrally. As a Christian, when it comes to drawing and painting, I just focus on the positive, on what is good, what is true and what is beautiful! It is where my joy is found, in Jesus Christ, that I am able to do this.
“Finally, brethren, whatever things have the character of truth, whatever things are worthy of reverence, whatever things are righteous, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are attractive, whatever excellence there is or fit object of praise, these things make the subject of careful reflection. The things also which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these things habitually practice, and the God of peace shall be with you.”
Philippians 4:8-9 (K. Wuest Translation)
